ABA Therapy – Naturalistic & Collaborative Support

Age Group: 2–18 years old

Our ABA therapy services for children and youth (up to 18 years old) are designed with flexibility, respect, and real-life application in mind. We value and promote Natural Environment Teaching (NET) within Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), while also integrating Discrete Trial Training (DTT) where we use evidence-based techniques to teach individualized skills. Our main focus is to teach using natural opportunities that are meaningful and engaging. This balanced approach allows us to create meaningful, engaging, and relevant learning opportunities tailored to each individual.

Support can be provided in a variety of settings including preschool, daycare, home, and community environments. This makes the learning experience more natural and adaptable to everyday life. Our interdisciplinary team includes a Behaviour Analyst, Behaviour Coach, Social Worker, and, when needed, Psychotherapists—ensuring well-rounded and collaborative care.

This program emphasizes building essential skills in communication, emotional regulation, daily routines, and social connection, while respecting each youth’s autonomy, learning style, and pace.

Natural Environment Teaching (NET): NET is a teaching strategy within Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) that embeds learning into everyday, familiar routines and activities. By fostering meaningful engagement, NET supports individuals in generalizing skills and applying what they learn to real-life situations.

ABA Therapy Services: BCBA & RBT Oversight

At our centre, all Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) services are designed and delivered under the supervision of a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) to ensure the highest standards of care, safety, and professional accountability.

Role of the BCBA and RBT

  • A BCBA is responsible for conducting assessments, developing individualized programs, supervising therapy delivery, and maintaining compliance with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO).

  • The BCBA also ensures standards of practice are upheld, carries liability insurance, and provides ongoing clinical oversight.

  • Registered Behaviour Technicians (RBTs) are highly trained professionals who work directly with clients but cannot practice independently. All RBTs must be supervised by a BCBA, with supervision documented through structured systems such as competency checks, regular meetings, and a percentage of therapy hours reviewed.

This partnership ensures therapy is both effective and accountable, giving families peace of mind that services meet professional standards.

Education vs. Clinical Approaches

Families in Ontario may access ABA therapy in two ways, depending on age, funding, and goals:

  1. Educational & Coaching Programs

    • Designed for skill development, independence, and daily living.

    • Offered in both group and one-on-one formats.

    • Focused on building communication, social participation, and practical life skills.

    • These are non-clinical, educational supports. They do not constitute psychotherapy or formal ABA treatment but are guided by evidence-based strategies and professional oversight.

  2. ABA Clinical Services

    • Recommended for families accessing the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) or those seeking more formal intervention.

    • Includes comprehensive assessments, individualized program design, data collection, and progress monitoring.

    • Delivered according to CPBAO standards of practice and overseen by a BCBA with the support of supervised RBTs.

Scope of Services

Our programs are designed to help children, youth, and young adults develop confidence, independence, and meaningful participation in daily life. Families may select the model that best fits their needs:

  • Educational coaching for practical skill-building and ongoing support.

  • Formal ABA clinical services for structured intervention under CPBAO guidelines.

All services are carefully overseen by a BCBA to ensure quality, safety, and consistency across every program.
