Our Therapy Approaches

EMDR Therapy

EMDR therapy focuses on retrieving and processing traumatic memories and difficult life events to enable adaptive resolution for clients. EMDR has been shown to be an effective treatment for PTSD symptoms, trauma, and more recent research shows that EMDR can be helpful in treating depression, anxiety, addictions, OCD, eating disorders, and chronic pain.

Dialetical Behaviour Therapy

DBT is a type of cognitive behavioural therapy. The focus of DBT is to notice and change negative thinking patterns, make positive behavioural changes, and manage and cope with your emotions. Research has shown that DBT can be useful for treating suicidal ideations and mood disorders.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

We strive to be transparent with all of our clients, and what that means is that we will discuss our therapeutic focus and direction with you. The entire therapeutic process is client-centred and focused on your needs.

Emotion-Focused Therapy

EFT therapy is focused on emotions. In therapy clients are encouraged to express, understand, and transform their emotions in a safe and non-judgmental space.

The focus of EFT couples therapy is to identify and change negative interaction cycles, decrease conflict, and to foster the emotional bond within the relationship.

insurance coverage

Many insurance companies offer health insurance
coverage for counselling services. Contact your insurance
provider directly to discuss their policies.

Frequently asked questions

To start therapy, all you need to do is email admin@talkthereapyservices.ca or call our office 519-319-8037, and based on your needs we will connect you with one of our qualified mental health professionals.

At your first session your therapist will start by asking what has brought you to therapy and explain their style of therapy and see if you feel that they will be a good fit for you. Please ask any questions you may have, as your therapist wants you to feel as comfortable as possible. If your therapist asks you something, and you aren’t comfortable sharing, that is okay. Just let your therapist know you aren’t ready to talk about it. As you feel more comfortable with your therapist, you will be able to open up more.

All of our mental health professionals offer a free 15-minute consultation, this allows you to ask questions, and get a feel for what therapy will be like, which makes the experience much less intimidating and more empowering.

Counselling can help you by giving you a safe space to vent, reflect, learn coping skills, communication skills, and foster resilience. Counselling can help you heal from a traumatic event, or cope with negative thoughts, stress, anxiety, and depression by using practical tools that will help you grow personally and professionally.

Most insurance companies will reimburse for counselling services, although we do recommend that everyone contact their insurance provider directly to see if registered social workers (RSW) or registered psychotherapists (RP) are covered under their plan.

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Cash, or e-Transfers.

Payments are due on the day of your appointment.

We maintain a 48-hour cancellation, rescheduling, and missed appointment policy. Our therapists require a significant amount of time to prepare for each counselling session, which ensures that you receive the best possible service, and therefore need adequate notice for an appointment changes.
