Understanding the Impact of Sexual Abuse Trauma

Sexual abuse trauma affects each person differently, but its emotional and psychological consequences can be long-lasting. Survivors often struggle with symptoms such as chronic anxiety, depression, flashbacks, difficulty trusting others, and feelings of guilt or shame. At Talk Therapy Counselling Services in London, Ontario, we recognize that these responses are not signs of weakness—they are natural reactions to an unnatural violation.

Our sexual abuse therapy sessions focus on helping you understand how trauma lives in the body and mind. We use trauma-informed approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), somatic techniques, and mindfulness practices to gently work through painful memories and develop healthier coping strategies. Education and awareness are an important part of recovery, and we take time to explain the effects of trauma in a way that empowers you.

Healing takes time, but you don’t have to carry the burden alone. With the right support, recovery is not only possible—it’s within reach.
